FAQ

  • Are e-bikes allowed on the nonmotorized pathway?

Yes, e-bikes are allowed on the pathway, but only those that meet the state definition of a Class 1 or Class 2 e-bike, meaning pedal-assist or throttle-assist bikes with a top speed of 20 miles per hour. Higher-powered, off-road, or motorcycle-style vehicles are not permitted. The intent is to balance accessibility and safety so everyone can share the trail.

  • Are there any state or county regulations that apply here in regards to e-bikes?

Michigan law recognizes three classes of e-bikes. Class 1 and Class 2 e-bikes are allowed on nonmotorized pathways unless a local authority specifically restricts them. Class 3 e-bikes, which can reach up to 28 miles per hour, are limited to roadways and bike lanes. So, our pathway follows the state law framework, ensuring safety while allowing people of different ages and abilities to use the trail.
